Ana María Fonseca Núñez (Bogotá) is a prolific Colombian-Spanish artist specialized in the performance and research of early music. She completed her piano diploma at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá and traveled to Venezuela where she collaborated with the Camerata de Caracas. Later, after a short stay at the UdK in Berlin (Meyerson), she moved to Basel where she studied harpsichord, basso continuo and conducting (Bötticher), singing (Türk), fortepiano (Torbianelli) and medieval keyboards at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. Alongside, she was a student of harpsichordist Diego Ares and continues her singing training with Dr. Flavio Ferri-Benedetti.
Her performing activity as a singer, instrumentalist and conductor - both as a soloist and together with various ensembles - includes several venues and concert halls in Europe, South America and the USA.
Her research is mainly focused on the history of musical migration through colonial Hispano-America to the present day. Her master's thesis in anthropology of music on this subject was awarded magna cum laude by the University of Bern.
She regularly participates in contemporary music projects as a member of the Basel based collectives Studio31+ and False Relationships and the Extended Endings.
She directs the Colombian ensemble Como era en un principio and continuously leads artistic-academic projects in collaboration with Colombian, Latin American and European universities and institutions.
